On 31 August 2021, the Government released a total of 477 kilometers of toll freeway; specifically, 262 kilometers of the AP-7 (Tarragona-La Jonquera) and 215 kilometers of the AP-2 (Zaragoza-El Vendrell), so that, currently, the State Road Network in Catalonia is toll-free.

Since the end of these concessions, MITMA has been working to adapt the current highways (with very long stretches without accesses or with links far apart) to the new reality, due to the increase in traffic.

One of the packages of mitigating measures consisted of a set of contracts worth 3.17 million euros for the drafting of seven projects for the remodeling and construction of junctions on the AP-2 and AP-7 freeways (six in Catalunya and another in Zaragoza and Huesca), with Esteyco being awarded one of them, specifically, Lot 4: Remodeling of junctions in Vilafranca centro, Martorell and with Highway C-60.

Another of the packages of actions is aimed at increasing the capacity of the freeways by adding a fourth lane, so that Esteyco, in a joint venture with the company WSP, has been awarded the contract for the drafting of the layout and construction project of: Extension to a fourth lane on the AP-7 highway from the Sant Celoni to Montornès del Vallès. Province of Barcelona. In the section under study (22.5 km) 4 junctions are identified, one of them being the link with the C-60, object of the contract of Lot 4 awarded to Esteyco and mentioned above, highlighting the benefit that this fact means for the development of both contracts. The extension to the fourth lane must contemplate the actions both in the roadways and in all the structures (viaducts, overpasses and underpasses, drainage works and walls) along the aforementioned section.

It should be noted that Esteyco has been working in recent years for various entities (INFRAESTRUCTURAS DE LA GENERALITAT, MITMA, ACEINSA-LIC, etc.) in the dismantling and restitution of toll plazas after the liberalization of the various highways in Catalonia. In some of these surplus areas Esteyco has made proposals for the restitution of the roadways through the implementation of solar panels, as in the C-32 and C-33.
