THE CATALAN WATER AGENCY (ACA) PROMOTES A DECARBONISATION PLAN IN WASTEWATER SANITATION SYSTEMS IN CATALONIA

In line with current regulations at the European, national, and regional levels, and with society’s will to continue towards an ecological transition that reduces dependence on fossil fuels, the “Agència Catalana de l’Aigua” is developing an ambitious energy saving and efficiency plan for a major part of its sanitation facilities.

To this end, since last October they have had Esteyco as technical assistance within the framework of a construction project of 29 photovoltaic solar self-consumption facilities for wastewater sanitation floors located throughout the Catalan geography. It is planned to install a total of 2,401 kW of peak power that, depending on the consumption to be satisfied, it is estimated that they will be able to produce around 3,600 MWh per year of clean energy, which would avoid the emission of 540 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

Currently, three of the facilities are already operating in tests, with most of the rest of the works in progress, expected to be all finished and operating at full capacity by mid-October of this year.
