THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT OF CATALONIA TAKES ON THE BEGINNING OF THE REUS-BELLISSENS HALT CONSTRUCTION

Ricard Font, Secretary of Infrastructure and Mobility of the Territory and Sustainability Department, presented the Informative Study of the future Reus-Bellissens Station, performed by Esteyco. The new station will be integrated with the Catalonina Commuter Train introduced in the section of the 210 ADIF Miraflores-Tarragona line and it will mean an investment between 12,2 and 15,5 million euros. The aim is to begin works in 2019 so that it can be operational by 2021.
The Informative Study considers two possible alternatives based on two options by transforming the railway platform to be able to introduce tracks with the required grade requirements needed for the construction of sideway platform and the station building.

The station would be placed in front of the roundabout where the streets Josep Pla and Manuel de Pedrolo converge. Through urban transformation of the current place it would turn into modal exchange axis: bus, taxi, cycle lane, etc. and a new square for neighbors and university users and other closer equipment.
The building of the new station will give service to both platforms through the construction of an underground path adapted for people with reduced mobility, including stairs and two elevators. Both platforms will have protection shelters and will count with accesses having validation machines on both sides, from the university and from the new square and residential areas.
The most significant cost of the action is the one corresponding to the modification of the current grade of the railway platform of 14 mm/m in order to to implement a 200 m long area with a 2mm/m grade which is required for train stops in the platforms.

Two feasible solutions have been studied: on the one hand, constructing the station over the two current tracks by modifying its grade which will require to remodel a section of 1520 meters (2 track platform); and, on the other hand, building a two siding tracks outside the current ones with being 520 m long (4 track platform) without the need of modifying the grade of the central tracks. The estimated cost of the first alternative is around 15,4 million euros and the second one, 12,2 million euros approximately.
Moreover, the second alternative, defended by the Regional Government of Catalonia and the City Council of Reus, is more cost-efficient and advantageous in an operative and technical level: “From a constructive point of view it is easier to execute and, at the same time, it allows to keep the traffic while it is being executing”, Font claimed.
