BARCELONA´S GREEN CORRIDORS AND AXES, THE CASES OF CARRER PI MARGALL AND CARRER GIRONA.

Within the framework of the naturalization actions being carried by Barcelona, the one better known as “superilla”, ESTEYCO wins the tenders for the Green Corridor project in Carrer Pi I Margall, at Gràcia´s District and the Green Exis in Carrer Girona, in the heart of Barcelona´s Eizample. Currently, both actions are being carried out and progressing at a good pace, under ESTEYCO´s supervision as the project author.

Pi I Margall, which until now has a 30 meters wide street, parking spaces with batteries and underutilized in the sense in which it was conceived, will become a green corridor, semi-pedestrianized and with access to private vehicles restricted to residents and merchants. The Project seeks a disruptive solution to the traditional concept of a longitudinally zoned street, creating spaces of variable width relationship by a subtle twist of its guidelines.

It has a total surface area of 26 Ha and an execution budget of approximately 14 million euros.
Girona, a traditional street in the Eixample, 20 meters wide, becomes a green axis, also semi-pedestrianized and with restricted traffic in the manner of the “superillas”. The proposal seeks to identify and integrate itself in such a characteristic pre-existence as the Eixample of Barcelona. During the works, elements of a patrimonial-cultural nature are found , which are finally integrated in the project, as a sign of identity and memory.

It has a total surface area of 17 Ha and an execution budget of approximately 8 million euros.
In order to guarantee the correct development of vegetation in both actions, the use of structural soil is studied and implemented, a sub-base that allows for the increase of useful soil necessary for root systems, regulates oxygen and moisture in the subsoil, while promoting a healthy subsurface landscape and compatible with the inherent requirements of an urban roadway.
