INTERVIEW WITH ESTEYCO ON RADIO NACIONAL ESPAÑA. THE A-5 TUNNEL PROJECT IN MADRID, A PROJECT TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE

In a collaboration between the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos Canales y Puertos de Madrid and Radio Nacional de España, the program “A golpe de bit Radio Exterior” analyzed the A-5 tunnel project in Madrid and the structural challenges it entails. The program featured Lola Ortiz Sánchez, General Director of Planning and Mobility Infrastructures of the Madrid City Council, and Carlos García Acón, General Director of ESTEYCO and author of the project.

The A-5 tunnel project will reduce noise and traffic jams, improve air quality, and create more green spaces. This initiative will allow the extension of Madrid Río, creating a backbone that will longitudinally connect the west and the center of the city. Additionally, five neighbourhoods will be connected, generating new transversalities and healing the urban fracture in one of the most complex areas of the Metropolitan Area.

The project also aims to connect and integrate the Paseo into the city’s green infrastructure network, on the scale of the metropolitan forest. The goal is to definitively solve the problems of congestion, accidents, noise and air pollution, accessibility, and safety in a highly degraded area with more than 80,000 vehicles daily.
