ESTEYCO PRESENTS THE CULMINATION OF THE ELICAN PROJECT AT THE WIND EUROPE EXHIBITION 2019 IN BILBAO

Last April, our CTO, José Serna, made a presentation on the ELISA technology and the successful completion of the ELICAN project at the Wind Europe Exhibition 2019 in Bilbao.
The ELISA technology combines a floating foundation and a telescopic tower. During the maritime transport, the base acts as a floating barge and the telescopic tower retracts to ensure stability during flotation. For installation, the base of the support structure is lowered to the seabed and the telescopic tower is extended. Therefore, it allows the wind tower to be fully onshore assembled, including the wind turbine.
On the other hand, the ELICAN project involved the construction and installation in Gran Canaria a full-scale prototype technology, with a turbine of 5 MW. This is the first offshore tower in the world fully installed on the sea without requiring the large ships or marine cranes currently used for this purpose, and which are expensive and scarce.
At the exhibition, also, TÜV SÜD took the opportunity to officially deliver the project’s certificate, which they have been evaluating during the 3-year period.
