FREE FLOW SYSTEM IMPLEMENTED IN SPAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME

Esteyco, commissioned by Abertis, developed the study for the implementation of the free flow system at the AP-7 La Roca toll motorway. This system is based on the removal of toll barriers in order to have a safe, efficient and comfortable travel thanks to this system. It consists of removing toll barriers in two of the lanes at the entrance of the toll area. Then, they are separated from the rest by means of concrete or metallic safety barriers which extend to the exit of the toll area. Once the toll area is crossed, the two free flow lanes come together with the other two conventional lanes for a distance of 500m.

This system is already implemented in modern motorways in countries like Australia, Chile, Singapore and USA. This initiative makes possible to pass through a toll area at a speed of 60-80 km/hour without waiting for the green traffic light or for the barrier to be opened.
