The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility plans to tender the works for the first phase of the new intermodal station in Gijón during the first quarter of 2026. This action will have an estimated maximum cost of 53.53 million euros.
In this regard, during the meeting of the Gijón al Norte Board of Directors held on March 27, it was agreed to approve the urbanization project in the area of the Carlos Marx viaduct, which constitutes the first phase of the construction project for the new intermodal station
The urbanization includes the demolition of the Carlos Marx street viaduct and the underpass under its structure, as well as the replacement of the street on the surface, connecting José Manuel Palacio Álvarez Avenue to the roundabout on Carlos Marx street with Portugal Avenue. Esteyco has been in charge of designing the structures and the railway layout of the new station.
The Gijón al Norte Board of Directors also discussed the urban development of the Solarón area, according to the proposal prepared by a specialized firm in response to the interest of the Principality and the City Council to reduce buildability in a new city design around a large urban park.
