INSTITUTIONAL VISIT OF VARIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS TO THE P.S ELIZATXO (T.M IRUN). WORKS FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STANDARD GAUGE ON THE RAILWAY SECTION BETWEEN ASTIGARRAGA AND IRUN.
On Monday, December 2, 2024, coinciding with the signing of the railway integration protocol between ADIF (Administrator de Railway Infraestructures), ETS (Euskal Trenbide Sarea), and the City Council of Irún, which will allow the integration of the “Topo” (Euskotren) into the international station of Irún, personalities from various administrations visited the demolition works of the Elizatxo Overpass located in the Ventas neighborhood of Irún. Notable attendees included the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility (Mr. José Antonio Santano), the Basque Government’s Minister of Sustainable Mobility (Ms. Susana García), the President of ADIF (Mr. Pedro Marco), and the Mayor of Irún (Ms. Cristina Laborda).
This intervention is part of the WORKS FOR THE EXECUTION OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STANDARD GAUGE IN THE SECTION BETWEEN ASTIGARRAGA AND IRÚN. INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRACK, in which ESTEYCO is carrying out the assistance and control tasks of the works.
The visit aimed to assess the progress of the demolition works on the Elizatxo Overpass while also providing updates on the status of the design for the new planned structure.
This project holds particular significance for the city of Irún as it will open new shared spaces around the Overpass and create a pedestrian green corridor, addressing a longstanding demand of Irún’s residents.
