ADIF TENDERS SIDING TRACK EXTENSION WORKS DESIGNED BY ESTEYCO
Adif has tendered the works for extending siding tracks to 750 meters at the stations of Humanes de Mohernando and Jadraque (one project), and Paracuellos-Sabiñán, Morés, and Épila (another project). Both projects were prepared by Esteyco in a joint venture with Ardanuy. These initiatives are part of the development of future services for the Algeciras-Zaragoza Railway Highway and aim to enhance the capacity, efficiency, and competitiveness of the conventional Madrid-Barcelona line.
In the first contract, €26 million is allocated to adapting the infrastructure, track, and electrification of the stations of Jadraque and Humanes de Mohernando in Guadalajara province. The planned works at Jadraque station include extending the existing track 3 on the Barcelona side to achieve a usable length of 750 meters, partially modifying track 1’s layout, and removing tracks 5 and 7. At Humanes de Mohernando station, tracks 3 and 4 will be extended on the Barcelona side to reach a usable length of 750 meters; part of track 4 will be removed, and track 2’s layout will be modified. Additionally, both stations will include underpasses between platforms, eliminating existing level pedestrian crossings, and updating catenary systems to accommodate the new track configurations. Further planned upgrades include platform and access installations, such as improved lighting, fire protection systems, CCTV, public address systems, and information displays.
The second contract, valued at €23 million, is aimed at extending siding tracks for 750-meter trains at the stations of Paracuellos-Sabiñán, Morés, and Épila. At Paracuellos-Sabiñán station, track 2 will be extended to provide a usable parking length of 750 meters, track 1’s layout will be modified, track equipment will be upgraded, new safety end tracks will be installed, and electrification and safety signaling systems will be adapted. Existing drainage works will be improved, and structural works will include a ballast guard wall and the central platform’s expansion, which will measure 4.5 meters wide, 210 meters long, and 68 centimeters high.
At Morés, track 3 will be extended through renewal works, functional adjustments to the station layout, and upgrades to superstructure, switches, electrification, and security and communication systems. Drainage systems will be enhanced, and the main platform will be expanded to 210 meters long, 4.5 meters wide, and 68 centimeters high. A new underpass between platforms will ensure accessibility for all travelers, featuring 2.5 meters of clearance height, 2 meters of width, and covered ramps.
Finally, at Épila station, track 3 will also be extended to 750 meters, adapting the functional track layout and performing works on superstructure, electrification, signaling, and safety installations, as well as drainage networks. The central platform will be expanded to match the dimensions of the remodeled platforms at Paracuellos-Sabiñán and Morés.
All three stations will feature new platform paving, updated signage, information displays, public address systems, improved lighting, and fire protection equipment.
As part of this set of developments between Madrid and Zaragoza for the Railway Highway, Adif has also recently tendered for the extension of siding tracks at Arcos de Jalón (Soria) and Sigüenza (Guadalajara) stations to 750 meters usable length for approximately €9 million. This project was also prepared by Esteyco and Ardanuy in a joint venture.
