CANARIAS WILL HAVE 3 OFFSHORE WIND DEMONSTRATION SITES PRODUCING 310MW
Last 31st July, there was a meeting between the President of the Canarian government, Mr. Fernando Clavijo, the Minister of Economy, Commerce and Knowledge of the Canarian government, Mr. Pedro Ortega, the deputy Minister of Economy, Commerce and Knowledge of the Canarian government, Mr. Adrián Mendoza, the Managing Director of Esteyco SAP, Mr. Carlos García Acón and the Managing Director of ACS Industrial, Mr. José Alfonso Nebrera in order to explain the proposal promoted by the Canarian government consisting of creating 3 offshore test areas in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura, respectively, in which offshore wind companies can test their prototypes. They will produce 310MW at a depth from 60 up to 200 m which will be used by the Canarian Electrical Network.
According to Carlos García Acón, this is a very interesting initiative by the Canarian government since it will help produce energy, on the one hand, and it will allow projects to be demonstrated, on the other hand.
Nowadays, Esteyco is developing a 5MW prototype in collaboration with PLOCAN in the waters of Jinámar (Gran Canaria). It is expected to be in operation at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2018.
