THE COMMUNITY OF MADRID SUPPORTS THE SOMOS PROJECT TO REVOLUTIONIZE OFFSHORE WIND
ESTEYCO has received funding from the COMMUNITY OF MADRID – VICE-PRESIDENCY, MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND UNIVERSITIES to carry out the SOMOS project (Sustainability and Modularity for Innovative Solutions in the field of Offshore Wind Energy), through the call for proposals “Grants to contribute to the improvement of public-private cooperation in R&D&I through consortium-led tractor effect projects”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the European Commission’s ERDF operational program.
With a budget of €4,583,535.18 and a duration of 3 years, the SOMOS project focuses on the applicability of an unprecedented solution to configure large floating hulls by assembling modular and containerizable elements (MSP – Modular Stackable Pontoons) bases on three pioneering technologies with enormous potential in offshore wind energy: ATOMS (Attachable O&M System), TIM (Transport & Installation Module), and AIRBARGE. Furthermore, the SOMOS project will study advanced remote monitoring systems and new intelligent and adaptive control systems applicable to all the aforementioned technologies and the broader field of marine structures and assets.
To carry out these activities, a consortium has been formed bringing together experts in the various areas covered by the project, including SARENS, a company specialized in heavy‑lift services, engineered transport and crane rental; ESTEYCO, a civil engineering and architecture consultancy and owner of the aforementioned solutions; AZIMUTAL, a company specializing in sensing, monitoring and control systems; DHAMMA BLUE, a start‑up in the nautical industry offering sustainable solutions to lead the green transition; and BESKAR FORGE, a start‑up specializing in virtualization, computing, storage, networking and communications.
The SOMOS Consortium will also benefit from the invaluable participation of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, which, through the Hydrodynamic Testing Tank of the Higher Technical School of Naval Engineers (ETSIN), will carry out numerical simulations and experimental model testing.
The main goal of the SOMOS project is to revolutionize offshore wind energy by significantly reducing costs and making it more accessible to everyone. This initiative not only seeks to boost a clean and sustainable energy source but also to position it as the leading energy option for the future. With a firm commitment to the environment, we are paving the way toward a greener and more cost-effective world.
