For the exterior cladding of the elevator, a permeable outer skin made of a mesh of ceramic pieces in different shades has been chosen, achieving better integration of the construction with the natural surroundings of the slope, which includes vegetation, trees, various blooms of the rocky massif, and the masonry retaining wall at the top of the slope.
Palamós, July 10, 2024 – Esteyco is pleased to announce the completion of the installation of the prefabricated structure for the new elevator and walkway that will improve accessibility between the old quarter and the coastal area of the municipality, connecting Marina Palamós harbor with the urban center and eliminating pre-existing physical barriers.
This new elevator is located on the pedestrian promenade of the Ronda Este ring road in Palamós and is connected to Plaza del Pedró via a 16.5-meter-long walkway. The construction of this new elevator aims to facilitate access to the Marina Palamós harbor, creating a new direct and accessible route and overcoming the current 17-meter height difference between the square and the harbor.
The structure of the elevator’s vertical shaft has been constructed using composite tables made of a frame-brace and four columns with a 40×40 cm section at each of the 6 levels. These were anchored by inserting rebars into the columns and embedded sleeves in the frames, with the joints subsequently filled with grout.
Additionally, the connecting walkway from the elevator to the square is composed of two pre-stressed concrete T-section beams with a span of 16.5 meters. The corten steel railing rests on the outer flange of the beam, while the inner flange supports the precast slabs that transversely join the beams. The work on the walkway’s structure will be completed with the concrete casting of the deck’s compression slab, scheduled for the coming weeks.
