OPERATIONS UNDERWAY AT EXPANDED NAVARRA INTERMODAL TERMINAL FOLLOWING ESTEYCO-LED PROJECT

The Navarra Intermodal Terminal has begun transitioning operations to its new facilities following the completion of expansion and upgrade works in December 2025. The project was led by ESTEYCO, which managed both the design development and construction oversight, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to the established schedule and quality standards.

The expansion has tripled the terminal’s surface area to 42,000 m², added two new 550-metre railway tracks, and created an enlarged platform area to strengthen rail operations and the container depot. These improvements significantly boost logistics capacity and enhance rail connectivity across northern Spain.

The total investment amounted to approximately €10 million, partially financed through NextGenerationEU funds. The terminal is operated by Hutchison Ports BEST, which was awarded the concession in 2024.

This project is a key component of the Ministry of Transport’s “Mercancías 30” Plan, designed to increase the market share of rail freight in Spain. With this expansion, the infrastructure solidifies its strategic role in the logistics chain and supports a more efficient transport model.

ESTEYCO’s involvement was instrumental in the technical definition, coordination, and supervision of the works, further consolidating its expertise in railway and intermodal infrastructure development.
