CONTROL CENTRE OF THE M-30
Esteyco visited the M-30 Control Center yesterday, where Madrid Calle 30 showed us the operation of the real Brain of the road, from where all the incidents that occur along its entire length are supervised and managed.
The M-30 hosts more than one and a half million daily movements, making it essential to have the most innovative technology for its proper management. It also boasts a high-level technical team constantly improving to remain a global technological reference in tunnel control, through continuous training and emergency services drills.
The visit took place in the main control center located in Méndez Álvaro, although there is another redundant center, which is one of the largest and most advanced in the world and is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The center also features a model where the extension of the main Madrid Road, which spans 32 kilometers – 22 above ground and 10 underground, can be observed. It will soon be expanded with the tunnel construction of the A-5, a project carried out by Esteyco for the Madrid City Council. Once completed, it will surpass the current tunnel length record held by Japan.
Adjacent to the control center is one of the ventilation shafts of the M-30 tunnels, 60 meters deep, from where visitors can also access evacuation galleries and tunnel facilities.
Esteyco would like to thank the visit to Madrid Calle 30, a joint venture between the adrid City Council and the Maintenance and Operation Company S.A (EMESA) for opening the doors of its control center and explaining who is behind the day-to-day management of an urban infrastructure benchmark such as the M-30.
