On September 24th, the Spanish Council of Ministers authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to acquire the financial commitments to carry out the works, and to be able to move forward with the procedures for the signing of the agreement regulating the financing of the works (with an investment of 730 million euros) between Adif, the Directorate-General for Roads and the Port Authority of the Port of Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>The new accesses to the port of Barcelona have been under discussion since the Delta plan was approved in 1994, in which the expansion of the port and El Prat airport was designed; finally, after years of negotiations, several drafted projects and even works started and terminated by the Directorate General of Roads, a solution was agreed upon in a Basic Project, presented on 12 June 2023, which develops the new road and rail accesses to the Port of Barcelona, with the characteristics indicated below:<\/p>\n<p>1. The rail access consists of a double track and mixed gauge for the connection of freight traffic access to the extension of the Port of Barcelona, at the mouth of the Llobregat of approximately 1.9 km, with an access branch to Can Tunis of single track of approximately 1.3 km and connecting on the other with a ring route in the extended area of the port.<\/p>\n<p>2. The road access begins at Sant Joan Desp\u00ed as an extension of the A-2 on both sides, becoming a single road with two lanes in each direction at the Ronda de Dalt junction. From the Bellvitge junction, it is also unified with the railway axis with an infrastructure at three levels (road, FGC and rail).<\/p>\n<p>These accesses involve the drafting of two Construction Projects: the so-called Construction Project No. 1, managed by the General Directorate of Roads, which will develop the road axis from the starting point approximately 1,000 m northwest of the Cornell\u00e1 junction, with the extension of the A-2 motorway platform, to kilometre 0+510 of the main axis of the new access motorway to the Port, and Construction Project No. 2, awarded to the joint venture formed by the companies Esteyco, Geocontrol and Saitec, which includes the definition of the railway axis, the road infrastructure from km 0+510 and the Zona Franca-Pratenc link.
