On November 9th 2023, the last aluminothermic welding between rails was carried out, which corresponds to phase 01 of the tramway connection works on Diagonal Avenue in Barcelona, between Pla\u00e7a de Les Gl\u00f2ries and Pla\u00e7a Moss\u00e8n Jacint Verdaguer, which allows significant progress in the entire work, reaching approximately 70% execution.<\/p>\n
This connection of the running lanes took place at the intersection of Diagonal and Carrer Bail\u00e8n, a few meters from the future Verdaguer stop, specifically at the “BRETELLE” track device, a device that allows the union of two tracks by means of two overlapping escapes.<\/p>\n
Cars, pedestrians and bicycles will be able to circulate in all the spaces reserved for them without cuts or detours. Meanwhile, all the processes will be carried out to install the necessary infrastructure to provide energy to the trams.<\/p>\n
In this sense, it is important to point out that, this is the first time that an APS (ground feed) system has been used in a facility of this type in Spain, this section, between Verdaguer and Gl\u00f2ries, and the future that will connect Verdaguer with Pla\u00e7a de Francesc Maci\u00e0, do not use catenary. The tram receives electricity through a segmented conductor rail. Each segment automatically switched on and off as the tram moves forward. This ensures total safety of pedestrians and all road users.<\/p>\n
The section between Gl\u00f2ries and Verdaguer is scheduled to come into operation “in the second half of 2024”.
