Last Saturday, March 4, the Lehendakari I\u00f1igo Urkullu, accompanied by the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, Arantxa Tapia, visited the facilities of the new Ondarroa Fish Market, whose construction ended in 2022. During this visit, the Lehendakari highlighted the value of the Basque fishing sector and its entire value chain and emphasized the turning point that the new Fish Market will mean for Ondarroa, considered the most important fish unloading port in the Basque Country.
\nThe new Ondarroa Ondarroa Fish Market consists on a large two-story building and a four-story office and administrative building attached to the main building The new Ondarroa Ondarroa Fish Market consists on a large two-story building and a four-story office and administrative building attached to the main building. It has a fish unloading and display area of more than 4.000 m2, in which the temperature is regulated at 10\u00ba C to ensure the cold chain; a modern digitalized auction room with shared use for sales on the high and low seas; and 15 loading docks for trucks, ensuring rapid distribution of the fish once it has been sold. In addition, the large public square created on the second floor and the development of the area surrounding the fish market have provided Ondarroa with a large pedestrian recreational area, with unbeatable views of the port and the Cantabrian Sea and that will make it possible to reconcile port life with urban life. The total investment budget goes up to 19 million euros and the work has been executed over a period of 3 years.<\/p>\n
