During yesterday’s visit to the Gaintxurizketa tunnel, the general manager of Adif AV, Juan Pablo Villanueva, the Minister of Transport I\u00f1aki Arriola and the delegate of the Government of the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, announced that by the end of 2024 the third rail will be a reality throughout the section of the connection between Astigarraga and Irun of the future Basque Y. <\/p>\n

Esteyco is carrying out the assistance to the construction control (ACO) in the works for the implementation of the standard gauge in the Astigarraga-Ir\u00fan section, by means of the implementation of the third rail. This solution takes advantage of the infrastructure and the layout of the line currently in service, allowing in the future the passage of high speed and conventional network traffic.<\/p>\n

Due to this mixed solution, it is necessary to adapt the gauges of the different structures present along the entire route, including the enlargement of the Gaintxurizketa tunnel section, by means of the TES (Tunnel Enlargement System), which allows railway traffic to be maintained during the execution works.<\/p>\n
