ESTEYCO MECHANICS PARTICIPATES IN THE ACTECA CONSORTIUM WITHIN THE CIEN STRATEGIC PLAN.

ACTECA’s main objective is to develop technologies required to foster the involvement of industry in the design, construction, comissioning and operation of critical components for DONES, as well as for other large Scientific Facilities that use similar technologies (HIPER, ESS, MYRRHA, DEMO, ILC, ELI).

DONES -the DEMO Oriented Neutron Source- is a deuteron accelerator of relatively low energy (40 MeV) but high current intensity (125 mA), whose beam hits a flowing liquid lithium target with a deposition power around 5 MW. As a result of this interaction, neutrons are generated to irradiate material samples, whose properties can then be studied and characterised under DEMO-relevant irradiation conditions.

ESTEYCO’s involvement is focused on the conceptual design of the lithium loop, based on the “EVEDA Lithium Test Loop” and the “IFMIF Lithium Loop” (the loop design carried out for IFMIF), but adapted to the unique characteristics of DONES, different from IFMIF, both in the power to be deposited on the target, as well as in the dimensions and the fluid-dynamic characteristics.
