Sustainability

The size of city and infrastructure projects is such that they cannot be tackled from any single professional specialism, and that need is our greatest virtue.

The inclusion of new environmental and sustainability criteria in projects marks a step further towards the growing demand for teams with highly diverse areas of knowledge and specialisation: landscape architects, urban planners, sociologists, cultural actors, ecologists, etc. are key teams when it comes to taking on long-term projects.

The way forward is to continue to share our projects and those of other studios with the utmost professional respect for everyone’s knowledge. Examples such as renewable energy generation and zero energy balance, water-cycle management, environment-friendly building procedures and building circular-economy criteria into our projects have become a common practice in recent years.

Urban development including renewable-energy generation. Photovoltaic pergola at Plaza de Sants

SUDS (sustainable urban drainage systems) on the Marina del Prat Vermell estate

Deconstruction of the Alfonso X El Sabio viaducts, traffic relief and urban development minimising noise impact on housing

Runway beacon structures at Barcelona airport, with a construction system that poses no threat to the Remolar protected area

Esteyco offices in Madrid based on circular-economy criteria (Construcía–The Move)

The Adea Active&Wellness Resort, designed with an eco-efficient energy model, respecting the natural conditions of the terrain and restoring landscape assets and native vegetation
