BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER HENARES NEXT TO THE ARABIAN BRIDGE

CLIENT: XAVIER CARRASCAL Y MAITE AGUADO ARQUITECTOS
Guadalajara (Spain)

A new bridge with a slightly curved and tense plan that increases its separation with respect to the straight line of the Arabian bridge and that connects the same crossings on bothside of the river. This form allows the creation of a greater and varying separation between both constructions and facilitates the perception of the project as an action to unite the historic presence of the Arabian bridge, the new infrastructure and the surroundings of both projects.

Since its initial planning, the bridge has had a constant reference to asymmetry, which is maintained as the guideline for defining the infrastructure and has become a fundamental piece in the town planning intervention of the project.

In tune with these starting premises, the proposal was made to convert the side elevation into a neat alignment in the form of an arch that crosses the river without the need for piers in its water course. The deck level is above that of the Arabian bridge to generate the maximum possible visual transparency from the pedestrian paths on the river banks.
