ESTEYCO PROVIDES THE DRONE INSPECTION TESTS OF THE COMPANY ALERION TECHNOLOGIES IN ITS MARINE PROTOTYPE, ELICAN
As part of the European Horizon 2020 SME Instrument (GA_768016) – WEGOOI project, the company ALERION , which was awarded the project, traveled to the Gran Canaria island to complete the final demonstration of its drone technology for the automated inspection of marine infrastructures.
The final test took place on January 29th and it has consisted in the inspection of the 3 turbine blades at the same time (in a single flight) and the real time images analysis on board, for which the use of LiDAR technology (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) has been necessary.
ESTEYCO and SGRE have collaborated with Alerion this way allowing the use of the first offshore wind turbine in Spain, owned by ESTEYCO, for the aforementioned tests.
To date, different companies in the sector have already expressed their interest in carrying out tests on the ELICAN prototype, taking advantage of its location and arrangement in the PLOCAN test bench. This milestone confirms the importance of the continuity of the wind turbine in this marine reserve, so opens up a great opportunity for the Canary Islands, as it is able to have a fully operational offshore wind platform with a view to keeping experimentation and research activities that improve the competitiveness of Spanish technologies.
