DONOSTIAINN AWARDS: VIRALGEN WINNER OF THE YOUNG BUSINESS AWARD

Within the framework of the innovation week organized by San Sebastián Development, the Economic Impulse Councelorship, in the fifth edition of the DonostiaINN awards, delivered the award to the young company for its commitment to innovation, its global approach and its connection with the city to Viralgen.

Founded in 2017, as a joint venture between Askbio and Columbus Venture. It was born in response to the unmet needs for the manufacture of gene therapies based on adeno-associated virus (AAV). It has recently been acquired by the pharmaceutical company Bayer.

In January 2020, the works that will host the Viralgen headquarters in the Miramón Technology Park in San Sebastián began. Esteyco is responsible for the architecture and engineering project, as well as the construction management that is currently being carried out.

The complex will be made up of three blocks set on a 14,000 m2 plot where each block consists of 5 floors, two of them below ground level. The volume of the building above ground has a maximum height of 17 m.

The objective is to complete the first phase of the works to begin with the manufacture of viral vectors for rare diseases, and, at the same time, be prepared for the manufacture of the vaccine against Covid-19 by the Massachusetts General Brigham Hospital (MGB) and Harvard University in case it progresses in clinical trials
